The beauties you see in the photo below are the actual Sangiovese grapes that will eventually become our Rosso di Colorado (a Super Tuscan style wine to be released in 2018) but FEAR NOT! As you may know, our delicious Sangiovese, affectionately known as Vinny No Neck, is available now by the bottle, from the tap, and/or in 1 Liter refillable growlers. Sangiovese is such a drinkable wine, and our Vinny is always on the top of the popularity charts, so let’s find out a bit more about our Sangiovese, Vinny No Neck, and this fine grape!
Vinny No Neck, our Italian-style red, is named in honor of our son Vincent. When he was a baby, a family friend (who grew up Italian on the east coast), saw him and said, "Hey, Vinny No Neck!" So, as a tribute to all families who have a Vincent (or two), we salute you with a glass of Vinny No Neck! Our Vinny isn’t yet old enough to enjoy wine (quite a few years to go) but he is proud of this 100% delicious Sangiovese, and so far, he has not complained about the name.
A FEW FUN FACTS about Sangiovese:
🍷 Sangiovese is an Italian wine grape variety whose name derives from the Latin sanguis Jovis, meaning “the blood of Jupiter” (also known as Jove). In Roman mythology, Jupiter is the god of the sky, and he is considered the king of the Ancient Roman religion gods.
🍷 This grape is grown mostly in central Italy and is the most widely planted grape in the country.
🍷 Sangiovese is a main component of Chianti and “Super-Tuscan” – a red blend which usually includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Cab Franc, Merlot, and – yours truly – Sangiovese.
🍷 This grape is highly adaptable to many different soils, but likes a warm climate
🍷 Sangiovese’s light body moderate alcohol level and high acidity make it a very food-friendly wine
