Wine Pairing with Movies for a Fun Night In
Watching the OSCARS a couple of weeks back got us thinking about movies past, so we thought we'd put together a list of flicks and wine pairings for a fun night in. Here are a few ideas ... let's call this PART I (we'll have a few more suggestions for Summer).
Let's start with everyone's favorite cousin, My Cousin Vinny! Two New Yorkers are accused of murder in rural Alabama while on their way back to college, and one of their cousins--an inexperienced, loudmouth lawyer not accustomed to Southern rules and manners--comes in to defend them (but it's Vinny's girlfriend who saves the day). Pair with Vinny No Neck of course! Vinny No Neck is our Italian-style red in honor of our son Vincent. 100% Sangiovese, 100% DELICIOUS.
Sideways: Two men reaching middle age with not much to show but disappointment embark on a week-long road trip through California's wine country, just as one is about to take a trip down the aisle. Miles needs to learn about our 2016 Colorado Cabernet Franc with its delightful aromas of cherry, vanilla, roasted pepper, leather and tobacco. We think he'll give it two thumbs up! Click this text to watch the CAB FRANC scene (this is the reason we chose our Cab Franc, so we can convert him). Sidenote: there is a sequel called Vertical out in book form.
Casablanca: A cynical nightclub owner protects an old flame and her husband from Nazis in Morocco. Tangled love story commences. Pair with [D] RED, our blend of 50 % Syrah and 50% Zinfandel. Blackberry jam and sweet tobacco. Bogie would approve of the smooth and velvety tannin and dark chocolate on the finish. Play it Sam.
Mrs. Doubtfire: After a bitter divorce, an actor disguises himself as a female housekeeper to spend time with his children held in custody by his former wife. Since Robin Williams played a slightly bubbly, slighty offbeat character (who always made us laugh) we think the perfect pairing would be our 2016 Colorado Riesling. Lightly carbonated, off-dry wine that will make you the hit of the party, whether you're in disguise or not.
Please add your own favorite flicks and pairings (from cocktails to beer, to wine) in our comments section, we'd love to see them!
