Who We Are

Opened in the fall of 2006, Bonacquisti Wine Company is a family-owned, urban winery located in a funky, industrial warehouse space in Denver’s Sunnyside neighborhood. Owned by certified Sommelier and winemaker Paul Bonacquisti and Dr. Judi Diaz Bonacquisti, Bonacquisti has been barrel-aging and bottling local Colorado wine, as well as regional and international wines on-site, creating award-winning wines in various styles for easy drinking, including every-night-of-the-week blends, and reserve and limited production varietal wines, with perennial favorites Vinny No Neck and Bella Risa. With wine education as its cornerstone, Bonacquisti strives to educate people about wine to eliminate the elitism often associated with wine. The winery regularly supports local education and local artists with original works for sale on the winery’s walls. The winery strives to make wine more accessible, with the goal of welcoming people into the winery as if they were welcoming them into their own home. Bonacquisti is located at 4640 Pecos Street.Who We Are

Paul Bonacquisti at Bonacquisti Wine Company

Paul Bonacquisti is owner and winemaker of Bonacquisti Wine Company, Denver’s Urban Winery, located in the Sunnyside neighborhood on the Northside. He is certified as a Level II Sommelier from the International Wine Guild and initially learned winemaking in his father’s garage before opening commercial operations in 2006. Paul’s extensive wine making experience combined with his wine education is what has catapulted the recognition of his wines. For example, his 2013 American Malbec and 2018 Colorado Tempranillo were awarded Double Gold and featured as some of the highest scoring wines in the Colorado Governor’s Cup Wine Competition. The 2017 Colorado Cabernet Franc and 2019 Rosso di Colorado both received 90 point ratings from Wine Enthusiast Magazine. His wines have also medaled in competitions such as the Eastern International, the Dallas Morning News, and Finger Lakes International.

Paul was a radio producer and an on-air radio personality before opening Bonacquisti Wine Company. His expertise on wine and winemaking has been featured in live and print media including 9News, 5280 Magazine, 303 Magazine, Westword and the Denver Post. Paul maintains a strong passion for on-air programming and has launched Denver Wine Radio, the only radio station in the world broadcasting from a working winery. You can listen to his Colorado wine podcast at https://www.denverwineradio.com/

Paul and his educator wife, Dr. Judi Diaz Bonacquisti, are Colorado natives who are passionate about local education and local art. Their wine labels were created by local artist Daniel Luna and have been showcased in the Museo de las Americas. Two wines, Vinny No Neck and Bella Risa, are customer favorites and are named for their two children.
