8 Places that are Pumping Out Live Music on Denver's Northside
“Live music is the cure for what ails ya” ~ Henry Rollins
The audience is waiting in anticipation, the stage suddenly becomes illuminated and the band walks out and waves to you and the entire crowd. Then you all hear that first note as they begin to play their opening number, and it’s one of your favorites! Live music: awesome, isn’t it?
We figure, if you’re reading this, you’re probably aware we, at Bonacquisti Wine Company, have a great appreciation for music -- especially live music. If you want to pull up a chair, Paul would be thrilled to talk about how rich and vibrant the Denver music scene is -- from smokey blues to cool jazz to classic rock -- there’s just something so energetic when you have the good fortune of enjoying a live band! We’ll mention a bit more about the bands we host at the winery, but we really wanted to pay homage to a few other local venues who host live music in the neighborhood our winery calls home.
Best of all, they’re all located on West 38th Ave between Stuart and Yates; just a stone’s throw away:
Beer Depot (4231 W 38th Ave) is a relaxed and friendly place with its share of locals and regulars who like to pop by for beer, drink specials, and maybe play a bit of pool, shuffleboard, karaoke and listen to a variety of live music on Saturdays.
Tennyson's Tap (4335 West 38th Ave) Swears by “Live Music and Colorado Whiskey”. They get their inspiration from the good ol’ days, and tout LIVE ENTERTAINMENT NIGHTLY. They’re devoted to the success of the Denver thriving arts and entertainments scene with a self-proclaimed obsession with art, music, culture and good times. We like the way they think!
Ziggies (4923 W. 38th Avenue) Colorado’s oldest blues bar, showcases a nightly line up of open-mike & professional performers. Their motto is “keeping music ALIVE in Colorado!” and another cool tidbit is their building dates back to 1888 or 1925 -- depending on which public records you happen to research. Of course, the inside has been renovated and updated over the years, but it still retains that 'old juke joint' feel.
And, to add more cool places to your list, located just off 38th, you’ll find the Monkey Barrel, known for “Live Music & Local Beer” and Local 46 Bar & Biergarten, their motto being “Tennyson’s local neighborhood bar”.
Last but not least, honorable mentions to two more neighborhood gems: the narrow and cozy Zio Romolo's Alley Bar and Gaetano's, who touts “eccellente cucina and cocktails” (be sure to check out the Sinatra impersonator on their upcoming schedule).
As for us at the winery, we’re always honored to feature some of Colorado’s finest songwriters, bands and musicians for our Friday’s Uncorked series at the winery. To name a few from our line-up, let’s go with blues from the Delta Sonics and Jack Hadley, funk by Gumbo le Funque, vintage Steely Dan tunes from My Old School, Latin jazz from the talented L.C.'s latin Jazz, and rock tunes by Romero, who plays everything from Johnny Cash to Bruce Springsteen to Prince to get the crowd moving and grooving. There’s something for everyone!
Be sure to check our calendar of events HERE to see all of our upcoming happenings, and do visit our Northside we mentioned in this post. Tell them Paul sent you. Cheers!
