It's about to get crazy in Denver. Seriously, the biggest effort in Colorado wine's illustrious history is almost underway. There are more than three dozen restaurants and wine shops participating in the second annual Colorado Wine Week, which runs June 3-9 as a prelude to the epic Colorado Urban Winefest on June 9.
If you dare keep up with us, here's where we will be. Drink Colorado wine with us!
Colorado Wine Cocktail Celebration
Snobby folks will tell you mixing anything into wine is pure blasphemy. Well, we're not snobby, which is why we're so excited to have been selected to participate in the Colorado Wine Cocktail Celebration on June 4 at Colt & Gray in Denver. Euclid Hall bartender Ryan Conklin will be one of the four drink slingers on hand, and he's repping the north metro area wineries. He'll be making one of his cocktails with our Colorado Riesling. It'll be far more complex than a wine spritzer. 6-9 p.m. at Colt & Gray, 1553 Platte St., Denver. $5 entrance. Cocktails and a limited menu will be on special.
Colorado Wine Farmers' Market
We're lucky in Colorado to be able to turn just about any space in Denver into a winery (at least for tasting room purposes). So we are hosting a Colorado Wine Farmers' Market with Highland Tap & Burger and a few friends. It'll be an afternoon of sipping wine, eating food and relaxing to some acoustic music. Bookcliff Vineyards, Mesa Park Vineyards, Guy Drew Vineyards, Desert Moon Vineyards and Pig and Block Charcuterie will be joining, too. 4-8 p.m. June 6 at Highland Tap & Burger, 2219 W. 32nd Ave. Entrance is free. Glasses of wine will be $5 and bottles will be available for purchase to take home.
Wine Down the Rail
Happy hour and trains go together like cheese and fruit. Right? Well, on this Friday it does anyway. A collection of restaurants within walking distance of a Light Rail station will be putting Colorado wine on happy hour. Stop by Pizza Republica in Landmark for cheap glasses of Vinny No Neck. 5-7 p.m. June 8 at Pizza Republica, 5375 Landmark Place, Greenwood Village.
Second annual Colorado Urban Winefest
When the good folks over at CAVE put "Urban" in the name of its Denver winefest, we got very excited. It's as if this festival was designed for us, Denver's original urban winery. So needless to say, we'll be pouring samples, filling jugs and selling bottles under the big dancing aliens along Speer Boulevard (officially known as Sculpture Park). The festival also includes free seminars, interactive wine demos and much more. Oh, and food trucks! Noon-6 p.m. June 9 at Sculpture Park, Speer and Arapahoe. $44 in advance.
Colorado Wine Week $15 pairings
Arguably the coolest part of Wine Week other than the Fest itself, this effort includes more than two dozen restaurants featuring a Colorado glass of wine and food pairing for just $15. Great value. And it's local. Our wines will be featured at Pizza Republica (Vinny No Neck alongside a beautiful charcuterie plate with local meats and cheeses, dubbed Antipasti di Colorado) and at Timberline Steaks in Concourse B at DIA ("Devils on a Horseback" with Vinny). Plus, gobble up a Rocky Mountain Blue Burger at Highland Tap & Burger with a [d] Red.
Free tasting at Amendment XXI
Winemaker Paul Bonacquisti will be stopping over at Amendment XXI to pour samples from four of his wines. Free. Meet the winemaker and chat about his wines at one of Denver's coolest wine shops. 4-7 p.m. May 31 at Amendment XXI, 2548 15th St.,
